DIY Summer Rescue Foot Cream

Ingredients

  • 15 Teaspoons of Cocoa Butter
  • 10 Teaspoons of Shea Butter
  • 10 Drops of Clove Essential Oil
  • 5 Drops of Lemon Essential Oil
  • 1 Empty Heat Resistant Container (Such as a Mason Jar)
  • 1 Sauce Pan
  • 1 Empty Lotion Container

Instructions

  1. Fill the sauce pan halfway full with water and bring to boil or use double boiler.
  2. Place heat resistant container onto stove top and add cocoa butter and shea butter.
  3. Allow the body butters to melt completely.
  4. Remove butters from heat once they have melted and stir.
  5. Add lemon and clove essential oils.
  6. Stir until all ingredients are blended.
  7. Pour mixture into heat resistant container.
  8. Allow to cool before use.
  9. Label and store away from kids or pets.

To Use

Apply to feet for 30 minutes to rescue summer damaged feet!

Natural Sunburn Remedies

According to data from the CDC, 70% of people report experiencing sunburn. Over exposure to the sun can cause serious issues such as sun poisoning, skin damage and even dangerous cancers such as melanoma. This is why it is important to protect your skin and care for it properly.

Obviously, the first line treatment for sunburn is prevention.

Avoiding over-exposure to direct sunlight and wearing proper skin protection such as sunscreen should be the first steps you take to avoid sunburns. Avoiding sunlight during the hours where the UV rays are the most dangerous (such as midday-afternoon) is also beneficial. Staying in the shade and wearing appropriate clothing that shields your skin from damage will help you avoid sunburn.

People with fair skin should use extra caution in the sun and should use a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.

If you do end up with sunburn, there are many natural remedies to treat it. 

1-  Aloe

Aloe gel is the liquid harvested from the aloe plant and is widely used as a natural remedy for sunburn, rashes and general skin care. Its naturally cooling effect makes it a perfect option to treat painful sunburns. Aloe gel also has properties that can treat bacteria and fungi.

 

2- Menthol

Menthol is made from various types of mint such as corn mint and peppermint. When mixed with a naturally calming base such as shea butter or cocoa butter, this blend will soothe even the harshest of sunburns.

3- Essential Oils

There are many essential oils that are beneficial in the treatment of sunburns such as: Lavender, Tea tree, Geranium, Chamomile and Eucalyptus.   To use these oils to treat sunburn, Apply 5-10 drops into 3oz of a carrier oil and apply a generous amount to sunburned areas, careful to avoid getting the oils into eyes, nose or mouth.

4- Cold Compress

One of the best natural remedies to soothe a sunburn is applying a cool cloth or ice compress to the affected area. Be sure to apply a fabric such as a washcloth or shirt in between your skin and the ice pack.

5- Baking Soda

As a natural PH balancer, baking soda can help restore balance to sunburned skin. To use this remedy to treat sunburn, create a paste with 1/4 cup of distilled, clean water mixed with 1/2 cup of baking soda and apply to affected areas. Allow mixture to set on skin for 15-30 minutes, then gently rinse.

  • 12 drops Lavender Essential Oil
  • 2 Teaspoons Beeswax
  • 1 Empty Heat Resistant Container (Such as a Mason Jar)
  • 1 Sauce Pan (Or double boiler)

Instructions

  1. Fill the sauce pan halfway full with water and bring to boil or use double boiler.
  2. Place heat resistant container onto stove top and add beeswax and shea butter.
  3. Allow mixture to come to a boil and melt completely.
  4. Once completely melted remove from heat.
  5. Carefully stir until mixture has cooled.
  6. Add lavender essential oil.
  7. Stir until all ingredients are blended.
  8. Pour mixture into heat resistant container.
  9. Allow to cool before use.
  10. Label and store away from kids or pets.

To Use

Apply to chest, neck and wrists an hour before bedtime to naturally induce calm and sleep.

Natural Romance Candle Recipe

Natural Romance Candle Recipe

Ingredients

  • Candle Wicks
  • Beeswax
  • Glass Jars or Other Heat Resistant Containers for Candle Base
  • 1 Heat Resistant Bowl
  • 1 Sauce Pan  (or Double Boiler)
  • Water
  • Jasmine Essential Oil
  • Ylang Ylang Essential Oil
  • Mica Powder for coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your candle base.
  2. Clean candle base and ensure they are dry and ready for use
  3. Place a small amount of glue on the bottom of the wick to secure it to the bottom of the jar
  4. Using a stick, fork or pencil, carefully tape it to the top of the jar and wrap the wick around it to ensure it stays upright.
  5. Fill sauce pan halfway with water, heat on medium/high heat.
  6. Add beeswax into heat resistant container.
  7. Place heat resistant container filled with beeswax carefully into the heated water and stir slowly until completely melted.  (Or use a double boiler)
  8.  Add 4 drops of jasmine and ylang ylang essential oil  (Optional add Mica Powder for coloring)
  9. Use a toothpick or other small instrument to mix the wax and oil. Mix slowly to avoid burning yourself.
  10. While still warm, carefully pour the beeswax mixture into the glass jar or candle container, ensuring that the wick stays upright in the middle of the jar
  11. Let cool for 24 hours.
  12. After 24 hours, trim the wick and enjoy your natural romance candle!

Ingredients

4 ounces of beeswax
1 teaspoon Lanolin
1 Tablespoon Olive Oil

Optional- 5 drops of your favorite essential oil for added scent.

 

Instructions

  1. Heat Beeswax in double boiler on stove-top.
  2. Once melted, slowly stir in lanolin and olive oil. (and essential oils if preferred)
  3. Mix until all ingredients are blended.
  4. Once mixture cools, pour onto clean surface and lightly knead to form a dough like consistency.
  5. Store in air tight container.

To Use

Allow children to play with mixture by molding dough in their hands. You can use cookie cutters or other toys to create fun shapes.  Ensure children do not ingest the dough and avoid sensitive areas such as eyes and face.

NOT SAFE FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION.

Recommended for use by children age 8 and up.

1-  Use a Calendar.

Keeping track of all your appointments, work schedule and family events on a calendar is a great way to add organization to your life. A great tip is to buy a dry erase calendar and keep it in a central location in your home. Instruct your family members to write any important dates on the calendar. This way, you can plan ahead!

2- Have a Family Meeting.

If you live with family members, a spouse or roommates, it is important to communicate with them to stay organized.  Having a meeting once a week to discuss important details such as chores, events or responsibilities that must be completed is a great way to eliminate some chaos in your life.

3- Make a Chore Chart.

Just like the old saying says, “Many hands make light work.”  Life is easier when you have people to help you. One way to simplify your life is to delegate responsibilities with your loved ones.
